Anchovies a la Donostiarra, Olasagasti

£8.00

Olasagasti / Spain / 190g

Why We Like It

Nothing beats an anchovy - A loaf of bread, a slab of butter, and a tin of anchovies, is just the perfect meal! These anchovies are slightly different as well - they are not salt-cured, but are instead fried in olive oil with garlic - delicious!

Olasagasti are located in the Basque region of Spain, and have been in business since 1929, producing products using traditional Spanish methods. The Basque fishermen, known as arrantzales, employ traditional, ecosystem-respecting fishing techniques. Along the shores of this sea, in bustling fish markets, they handpick the freshest catches for their preserves. A few kilometers from the ports at the cannery, the fish are then hand-cleaned, separated, cooked, and packaged - a timeless, artisanal process echoing the practices of centuries past.

What To Expect

This tin contains a “ración”, or large tapa, of 12 premium fish. The anchovies are caught in the spring in the Bay of Biscay’s Cantabrian Sea, and then hand-prepared San Sebastian-style (Donostia is the Basque name for San Sebastian, and the city’s residents are the Donostiarras), with garlic, cayenne pepper and wine vinegar.

Enjoy straight from the tin, or on crusty bread doused with the infused oil from the tin.

Ingredients: anchovies (53%), olive oil (45%), a clove of garlic, cayenne pepper, wine vinegar, salt
