Champagne Agrapart et Fils, Les 7 Crus, NV
Why We Like It
Even if you have a passing interest in the world of grower Champagne, you have probably heard the name Pascal Agrapart. For those of you who haven’t, here’s a quick rundown.
Growers are the houses in Champagne that farm their own vineyards as well as making the wine that we all love. In general, this is a fairly new approach in the region, but Agrapart et Fils were founded with this intention four generations ago. This hands-on approach provides not just control over the process, but an ability to produce the small scale, terroir focused wines that are the envy of sommeliers from New York to Bangkok.
Pascal crafts his wines in this method, vinifying each of his holdings separately. His vines are mostly in the Grand Crus of Avize, Côtes des Blancs therefore predominantly Chardonnay, although he has some holdings of the other varieties you will be familiar with… and some you won’t. Respect for the land is paramount and chemical treatment is only used in the most extreme circumstances.
What To Expect
Les 7 Crus is Agrapart’s house NV blend. It is 90% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Noir and based on the 2020 vintage, with just over two years on its lees. A fantastic introduction to grower Champagne, this balances the fruit character of the Chardonnay with a clean, focused finesse.
Chardonnay, Pinot Noir / 12% / Champagne, France / 75cl
