Le Champ d'Orphee, Papillon d'Orphee, 2023
Why We Like It
The South West of France is an absolute treasure trove of small winemakers making delicious, excellent value wines.
One of these vignerons is Stephane Lucas. He holds about a hectare of vines in Gaillac, although you won’t see that name that on his bottles… Stephane thinks the AOC are too lax with their requirements, so he opts out and follows his own higher standard.
All his vines are the one local variety, Brancol (the local name for Fer Sevadou). Everything is done by hand, and winemaking is low intervention, employing organic and some biodynamic practices. He even designs his own labels.
What To Expect
This is a wine for long lunches and cool evenings in the garden. Think sausages, confit duck, grilled lamb… With every sip, the crunchy bramble fruit and stony rusticity will send you direct to that hillside overlooking the Mediterranean.
Braucol (Fer Servadou) / 13% / Gaillac, France / 75cl
