Domaine Garnier, Chablis Grains Dores, 2022
Why We Like It
We didn’t see ourselves stocking a Chablis. Whilst we love the steely, fresh wines from one of the most famous appellations you can name, they didn’t seem to fit in with what Plouf was about…. Then Domaine Garnier’s ‘Grains Dorés’ turned up.
Second generation vignerons Xavier and Jerome Garnier make a range of wonderful, classic Chablis, from Petit to 1er Cru, but when we were presented with a wine that bucked the norm of the appellation, our ears pricked up.
What To Expect
‘A wine as we felt is should be made’
From the Côte de Charmony, the wine undergoes 30 months of aging in tank and barrel with light battonage, giving the wine a wonderfully rich texture.
Grains Dorés translates as Golden Grapes, and it’s clear why this was chosen. Ripe yellow apple and lemon curd abound in the glass.
Chardonnay / 12.5% / Chablis, France / 75cl
